Durham Wildlife Trust’s Volunteering Fair takes place at Low Barns Nature Reserve on Sunday 8th April.
Whether you’re looking for a new hobby, to develop skills, make your CV wilder, or simply want to help protect the nature on your doorstep, Durham Wildlife Trust will be on hand from 10-3pm to help find the right opportunity for you.
If you’re a nature lover, be an expert or novice with a little or a lot of time to give, there’s so many opportunities to choose from both outdoors and indoors. We also have volunteering opportunities for families, so everyone can be involved.
Our practical conservation work is great for not only keeping yourself in shape but our reserves too. Our Western Reserves Task Force, who work out of Low Barns, spend much of their time maintaining our western reserves across Durham. From hedge laying to dry stone walling, it’s a great way to help secure the future of our local habitats and species – whilst keeping fit and making new friends. From visitor centre wardens to pony wardens, there’s plenty of ground to cover.
Our indoor roles are equally as rewarding and fun. We have a team of volunteers who help to run our cosy visitor centres, providing a warm friendly welcome, refreshments, and information about our work to those that pass through our door. For those that prefer to be behind the scenes, we are also looking for helping hands with our office work. We can make good use of your organisation, marketing or technical skills.
From surveying wildlife to engaging with our local communities and children, our active events programme and ongoing projects such as Living Uplands and Revealing Reptiles provide further opportunities for you to make a difference.
If you’re a wildlife enthusiast with knowledge to share, we’re always looking for volunteers who would like to lead our walks, talks, join our guides in our bird hides, or help us to set up new local wildlife groups.
As the clocks go forward and the weather finally gets warmer, it’s the perfect time to reawaken those new year volunteering goals.
Come along to our fair and have a chat with our friendly team to find out more about the opportunities that will put a spring in your step.
We hope to see you there.
