Event details
About the event
We only really have four regularly occurring species of cetacean (whales, dolphins, porpoises) in the North East; bottlenose dolphin, white-beaked dolphin, minke whale and harbour porpoise. All of them are at risk due to continuous threats to them and their habitats, including capture and drowning in fishing gear, sound disturbance, marine pollution and over-fishing.
You can help us to improve the conservation and protection of whales, dolphins and porpoises, by taking part in this guided Sea Watch survey taster session, and help us to monitor and record this important group of sea mammals.
You can borrow our binoculars, learn how to do a cetacean survey, and if you get ‘hooked’… find out about our free training sessions so you can then take part in our cetacean monitoring programme by becoming a volunteer Sea Watch Observer.
Sea Watch Foundation is a national charity working to improve the conservation and protection of whales, dolphins and porpoises in British and Irish waters.
Please wear warm clothing suitable for the outdoors and comfortable, sturdy footwear.

There is a Pay and Display car park, and there is a regular bus service that stops at East Cliff Road bus stop (Stop ID: duratjtj).
