Closure due to Flooding

Closure due to Flooding

Heavy rain, brought about by Storm Ciarán has caused the closure of Durham Wildlife Trust headquarters on Thursday 2nd November - Saturday 4th November 2023 with flood waters causing ponds on site to overflow into one another. On Sunday 5th November 2023 the reserve and coffee shop reopened.

Rainton Meadows will be closed in it's entirety today (Thursday 2nd November 2023) and tomorrow (Friday 3rd November 2023) Trust staff will be reassessing when where possible over the weekend but for now there is just too much water on site.

All of the Rainton ponds are also now flowing over paths and into one another. Please do not attempt to walk around the reserve until notice is provided that the site has reopened.

The Trust HQ office operations will continue remotely, to contact the team please call 0191 584 3112 or email mail@durhamwt.co.uk.

*UPDATE* 05/11/2023 - Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve and The Meadows Coffee Shop have reopened to visitors today Sunday 5th November as flood waters have sufficiently receded. Walkers are advised to come with wellies.
