Supporters gather to mark 50 years of Durham Wildlife Trust

A celebration event to mark 50 years of Durham Wildlife Trust saw more than 150 supporters gather together to watch a theatre performance with a difference.

On June 24 and 25, 2022, Durham Wildlife Trust staff, Trustees, partners, members, and the wider public who had purchased tickets, gathered together for a production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', presented in the seasonal setting of a meadow in a nature reserve.

With five actors, a trunk full of props, and a little bit of madness, Theatre Space North East told the story of lovers on the run, fairy kingdoms at war, and a group of workers trying to put on a play – all in 30 minutes and set in a wildflower meadow at Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve.

Trust team members were on hand to run pond dipping sessions for youngsters, experts were available to discuss the wildlife in the meadow, the engagement team ran fun, craft activities and project teams came along to talk about their work.

Zoe Hull, Head of Operations and Development, said: "We were delighted to bring so many people together for this special event. The theatre production was fantastic, and enjoyed by all, and it was great to see so many people learning more about the wonderful wildlife at Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve during their visit. I would like to thank everyone who came along and supported this event and all of our members, without whom we couldn't carry out our vital work for wildlife across the North East."

Please enjoy some photographs from the event below.

Over the past 50 years, the Trust has done some amazing things; from protecting more wild spaces than ever before and running projects to help species that are at risk of disappearing from the North East, to helping thousands of youngsters understand more about the natural world and the vital work that we do to look after it for the future.

We can't do what we do, without the support of our members. As a member, your monthly contribution goes directly towards nature conservation in the Durham Wildlife Trust patch. Which means you're looking after the wildlife on your doorstep. If you're not already a member, you can join from as little as £2.50 per month.
