Flock joins the Rainton Meadows grazing team

We have some new additions to Rainton Meadows. A flock of 30 to be precise.

These welsh black and Hebridean cross sheep will be grazing across three fields from January to March this year.

The sheep are owned by a local grazier who also grazes Herrington Hill and Cross Lane Meadows nature reserves for the Trust.

The sheep graze in a slightly different way from our Exmoor pony herd.

We are hoping that by having both animals on the reserve we will create a diverse grassland habitat with a more varied sward structure which will in turn benefit a myriad of wildlife.
