Lake restoration near Bishop Middleham

Lake restoration near Bishop Middleham

If you live in or around the Bishop Middleham/Sedgefield area we have some exciting news!

Our Discover Brightwater project has begun work restoring a lake and wetland that had dried up and scrubbed over. Many local people will recognise the location and will have watched the area dry up over the years, so we’re delighted to have started work restoring this important habitat for wildlife.

So far, we’ve removed some of the scrub, cleared blocked ditches that were stopping the water flowing in and cleared out the inlet so hopefully water levels will rise. We’ve paused the scrub clearance for now until autumn due to bird breeding season, but will recommence later in the year.

If you live nearby and pass this area, we would be really interested to hear whether the water levels are rising. Please email us: mail@durhamwt.co.uk
