About the event

We will be walking our Low Barns Nature Reserve with botany expert, Julia Quinonez, as she points out some handy tips and tricks to help identify common UK trees during winter months. Whilst there may be little in the way of leaves to help us, we will be learning how to use bark, tree shape, buds, catkins, and any other key characteristics to help us identify UK tree species. The session is open to all but will be tailored to beginners in tree ID.

The session will begin at 10am in the Alder Room at Low Barns Visitor Centre before heading out onto the reserve. Please bring warm clothing, waterproofs, a hand lens if you have one, any winter tree ID books you may find useful, and comfortable walking shoes.

We will be walking around Low Barns Nature Reserve for approximately 2 hours. We will mostly be sticking to the footpaths, but may occasionally go off-path. If you have any concerns surrounding accessibility, please email Mary-Anne at marielly@durhamwt.co.uk. Toilet facilities are present on-site.
